He got out of his punishments, given by his Aunt Polly whom he lives with. His cousin Sid, whom he also lives with informed Aunt Polly with all of Tom’s mischief. Tom tried not only to get out of his punishments, but he tried to find ways to avoid school too.

Tom’s own adventures always get him in more trouble than expected. While on his way to the graveyard to find a cure to warts, he and his friend witness a murder. Trying to keep what they have seen a secret, Tom suffers with nightmares and a guilty conscience. Meanwhile, he has fallen in love with a new girl in school, Becky Thatcher, which completely ignored him and broke his heart. Tom and his friends decided to escape their life of misery and pain, and stick by with each other until death. They planned another one of their adventures of becoming pirates and set sail to Jefferson’s Island.

They stayed there until they started getting homesick, Tom returned home to find Aunt Polly worrying about him and planning his funeral. Huck and Tom also hear where the treasure can be found.

Huck keeps an eye out, while Tom attends Becky’s picnic where they are friends again. Becky and Tom both get lost in a cave and Tom ends up seeing Injun Joe. Huck informs the widow and she was saved from murder. Injun Joe locked in the cave, dies of hunger while Tom and Becky find a way out. Not being in enough trouble, Huck and Tom return to the cave to find the treasure, and luckily find 12,000 dollars worth of gold. They split it and they live in a lives as famous boys and told their tales over and over to other boys, while continuing their adventures.

How has the single-story narrative of Columbus Day shaped the ideological viewpoint of settler colonialism in the United States?

Answers

“They believe very firmly,” wrote Christopher Columbus after his first voyage to the Americas, “that I, with these ships and people, came from the sky.” Other Indigenous Peoples reacted in similar ways to their first encounters with Europeans.

Columbus and other Europeans had their own misconceptions. They mistakenly believed that the Arawak were “Indians.” Carroll and Noble write:

This misconception originated in Columbus’s basic error (which he himself never realized) in thinking that in sailing westward from Europe he had reached the Indies [in Asia], which were the true object of his voyage. To Columbus, it was literally inconceivable that he had found previously unknown lands. Like other Europeans of his time, he believed firmly in the completeness of human knowledge. What he saw, therefore, he incorporated into his existing worldview, and the Native Americans thereby became, to the satisfaction of most Europeans, simply Indians.

In describing the “Indians,” Europeans focused not on who they were but on who they were not. They then went on to describe what the Indigenous Peoples did not have. Amerigo Vespucci, for whom the Americas are named, described the “Indians” as neither Muslims nor Jews. He noted that they were “worse than heathen; because we did not see that they offered any sacrifice, nor yet did they have a house of prayer.” John Winthrop, an Englishman who helped found the Massachusetts Bay Colony, justified his claims to the Indigenous Peoples’ land by arguing that they did not mark their ownership of it in ways that Europeans recognized. He wrote that they “enclose no land, neither have they any settled habitations, nor any tame cattle.”

To many newcomers, the Indigenous Peoples were not only “backward” but also dangerous. In historian Ronald Takaki’s words, “They represented what English men and women in America thought they were not—and, more important, what they must not become.” Colonial leaders warned that colonists must strictly adhere to the laws and moral guidelines that defined their communities; otherwise they would allow themselves to become “Indianized.” Increasingly, “to be ‘Indianized’ meant to serve the Devil.” It also meant to be “decivilized, to become wild men.” After all, the English viewed "Indians" as people living outside of “civilization.”

The sentence below that is an example of hyperbole is "It isn't really Thanksgiving unless you eat until you burst".

This is so because-

Hyperbole is a poetic device/figure of speech that uses exaggeration in statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. It is often used to create humor, emphasize a point, or evoke strong emotions. The sentence above is an example of hyperbole because it implies that eating so much that one's stomach explodes is a necessary condition for celebrating Thanksgiving, which is obviously not true and impossible. It exaggerates the amount of food that people eat on this holiday to make a humorous or sarcastic remark. The other sentences are not examples of hyperbole because they do not use extreme or unrealistic exaggeration. Explanation:

If you finance $25,000 auto loan for a 60-month period at 0.4% interest per month, your monthly payments will be c. $469.49.

Your monthly payment will not be a. $373.24 , b. $416.67, or d. $482.02.

Data and Calculations:

N (# of periods) = 60 months (5 years)

I/Y (Interest per year) = 4.8% (0.4% per month)

PV (Present Value)  = $25,000

FV (Future Value) = x

P/Y (# of periods per year) = 12

C/Y (# of times interest compound per year) = 12

PMT made at the of each period

Results:

Monthly Payment = $469.49

Sum of all periodic payments (x) = $28,169.00 ($469.49 x 60)

Total Interest = $3,169 ($28,169 - $25,000)

Thus, the payments per month will be $469.49.

Which detail from The American Crisis develops the key idea that the failure to face challenges as they arise places the success of future generations at risk?

A: “If we reason to the root of things we shall find no difference; neither can any just cause be assigned why we should punish in the one case and pardon in the other.”

B: “What signifies it to me, whether he who does it is a king or a common man; my countryman or not my countryman; whether it be done by an individual villain, or an army of them?”

C: “The far and the near, the home counties and the back, the rich and the poor, will suffer or rejoice alike.”

D: “The heart that feels not now is dead; the blood of his children will curse his cowardice, who shrinks back at a time when a little might have saved the whole, and made them happy.”

Answers

Hey there! Here is the correct answer!

C: “The far and the near, the home counties and the back, the rich and the poor, will suffer or rejoice alike.”

I hope this answer helps you out!

The detail from The American Crisis that develops the key idea that the failure to face challenges as they arise places the success of future generations at risk is: “The heart that feels not now is dead; the blood of his children will curse his cowardice, who shrinks back at a time when a little might have saved the whole, and made them happy.” Therefore, the correct option is D.

This passage from Thomas Paine's "The American Crisis" underlines the idea that delaying dealing with problems and acting at crucial junctures will have detrimental effects on future generations.

It implies that people who come after us would regret and criticize our passivity and timidity in the face of difficulties. This is consistent with the fundamental notion that future generations' progress is at danger if problems are not faced.

Thus, the ideal selection is option D.
