Issued in April 2010, a report entitled, "Missing the Mark: Revisiting Sodexo’s Record on Diversity," charged that, between 2004 and 2009, the number of African American managers had increased by less than 1 percent and that of minority managers as a whole by only 2 percent. Reported one African American employee: "I worked with a chef who would pull down his pants and use the ‘n’ word and had this thing about ‘you people.’ I brought it up with Human Resources, but they said since he was part black, it was okay."
As suggested, however, by the run of Diversity Inc citations from 2010 to 2015, Anand’s efforts may have begun to pay off. Anand likes at least some of the latest scorecard numbers. Today, for example, 10–15 percent of total bonuses for about 16,000 managers are tied to the attainment of diversity-related goals, as are 25 percent of upper-management bonuses.
