Zora Neale Hurston uses non-academic English in this excerpt to portray the dialect of black Americans during the period. Option C is correct.

The language used by the characters in the story is an example of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) or dialect, which was commonly spoken by black Americans during the time period when the story takes place.

Hurston, as an anthropologist, was known for her use and documentation of AAVE in her literature, and this use of non-academic English in the excerpt is an example of that. describe the meeting between gatsby and daisy. why was he so nervous? 35. how long did it take gatsby to make the money to buy the mansion? 36. why did gatsby want daisy to see the house and his clothes? 37. what had the green light on the dock meant to gatsby? 38. what had gatsby turned daisy into in his own mind?

Answers

Answer: 35. The novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald describes the meeting between Gatsby and Daisy as a very tense and emotional moment. Gatsby had been in love with Daisy for years and had built up an idealized version of her in his mind, so he was incredibly nervous about finally seeing her again after many years apart. He had also gone to great lengths to create a perfect setting for their reunion, including buying a luxurious mansion and throwing lavish parties in the hope that Daisy would attend.

36. Gatsby made his fortune through his involvement in various illegal activities, such as bootlegging and gambling. It is not specified in the novel exactly how long it took him to accumulate the wealth needed to buy his mansion, but it is clear that he had been working towards this goal for many years.

37. The green light on the dock across the water from Gatsby's mansion represents Daisy to Gatsby. It is the light at the end of Daisy's dock, and Gatsby often stands outside his house looking across the water towards it. To Gatsby, the green light symbolizes his hope for a future with Daisy, and his desire to recapture the love they had shared before she married another man.

38. Gatsby had turned Daisy into an idealized version of herself in his own mind, imagining her as the perfect embodiment of beauty, grace, and wealth. He had built up an image of her as the ultimate object of desire, and his entire life was dedicated to winning her back. However, this idealization of Daisy was also a kind of projection of his own desires and ambitions, as he saw her as a symbol of everything he wanted to achieve and possess in his own life.

Explanation:

The meeting between Gatsby and Daisy was quite nerve-wracking. Gatsby was extremely nervous because he was finally meeting the woman who he has been in love with for years.

He was scared of what Daisy might think of him, and he was afraid that she might not love him back. His fortune was made in bootlegging, which he began in 1919, and later on through illegal gambling establishments.  Gatsby wanted Daisy to see the house and his clothes to impress her. He wanted to prove to her that he was no longer the poor soldier she had fallen in love with in Louisville.

He wanted her to see that he was a changed man and that he was now the man of means and wealth that she had always wanted. The green light on the dock represented hope and desire for Gatsby. The green light was the light on the dock of the Buchanan's house across the bay, and it represented Gatsby's dream of being with Daisy.

Read the excerpt from Pat Mora’s essay "The Leader in the Mirror."

I hoped that most of the students were going to enroll in college. The confetti would be for their private celebrations, those solitary moments when they had passed a test that worried them, finished a difficult paper at 2 A.M., found a summer internship. Sometimes, even when no one else is around, it’s important to celebrate when we have struggled and succeeded—to sprinkle a little confetti on our own heads.

Now read the excerpt from the article "Career Planning for High Schoolers."

About two-thirds of high school graduates from the class of 2013 enrolled in college that fall, according to BLS: 42 percent in baccalaureate (4-year) colleges and 24 percent in 2-year schools. Of the remaining one-third of 2013 graduates, who opted not to go to college, 74 percent entered the labor force.

College-bound high school graduates may not know it, but BLS data show that wages are usually higher, and unemployment rates lower, for people who continue their education after high school.

How are the two excerpts different?

A. The essay encourages students to celebrate small accomplishments during college, while the article uses facts and numbers to show how many students attend college.
B. The essay uses facts and numbers to show the importance of attending college, while the article shares personal examples of students in college.
C. The essay is written by someone who does not think college is important, while the article is written by someone who encourages college education.
D. The essay is written by someone who encourages college education, while the article is written by someone who encourages students to enter the labor force.

Answers

Answer:The two excerpts are different in that the essay encourages students to celebrate their personal successes during college, while the article uses statistics to demonstrate the benefits of continuing education after high school. Therefore, the correct answer is A.

In the second paragraph, Fortas points out that the armbands do not cause disruption or
interference with school activities. Why is this important evidence supporting the court's
decision?

Answers

Answer:

The statement by Fortas that armbands do not cause disruption or interference with school activities is important evidence supporting the court's decision because it demonstrates that the students' freedom of expression does not come at the expense of the school's ability to function. In other words, the court recognized that the students had a right to express their views, but also understood the need for schools to maintain order and discipline. By showing that the armbands did not disrupt the educational environment, Fortas was able to argue that the school had no valid reason for suppressing the students' speech. This helped to establish the principle that schools must have a compelling reason for limiting students' free speech rights, and that such limits must be narrowly tailored to achieve a legitimate educational goal.

Over the last two days, DeShawn's service team had missed the connecting buses from the work site—twice. This resulted in the group walking an extra four miles through the rain forest, which wouldn't have been a big deal if they had not been working in the hot Guatemalan sun all day. After all, DeShawn and the other team members from Philadelphia were hard workers with good attitudes, but they were just not used to the physical labors of construction.
"How far until we come to the road?" Precious asked the team leader.
Marcus scanned the surroundings. "I would say we have about a mile and a half left," he said.
DeShawn groaned. When his grandmother had told him about the service trip, she mentioned that it would be hard work helping build large storage sheds in Guatemala—but this? Trudging through the rain forest after working all day was just a bit too much for DeShawn.
All of a sudden, a low growling sound permeated the forest. WOOOH-EEE WOOOOO-EEE
"Whaaaat's that?" Precious asked.
Marcus smiled. "Not to worry," he said. "That's the sound of the Guatemalan black howler. They live here. I'm surprised we didn't hear any yesterday as we passed through—they're usually active around dusk."
The howling grew louder. WOOH-EEE WOOOOO-EEE.
"Um," stammered DeShawn. "What is a black howler?"
"Follow me!" said Marcus. "I'll show you."
With trepidation, the group followed their fearless guide until he stopped and pointed up into the trees.
There—perched in a Cacao tree—sat a large black monkey.
"A black howler is a plant eating monkey. The males howl to find mates and defend territory," Marcus said. "Hope he didn't scare you too much."

Which sentence provides the best introduction for the narrative?
A.
DeShawn was not interested in helping build shelters in Guatemala, but he decided to go on the trip anyway.
B.
DeShawn wiped the sweat from his brow and stumbled down the muddy path as he wondered why on Earth he ever agreed to go on this trip.
C.

Describe how people can change and cannot change.

Answers

People can change and cannot change. It really depends on the person. Maybe they have a lot of hormones and are going through a phase. Perhaps they have a mental condition like depression, anxiety or ADHD. Maybe something someone has done has affected them. You just never know until you ask the person.

Of course people can change! Here’s how I described it.

Most people find it difficult to change, particularly as they get older. For example, you liked unicorns as a kid to if you still like unicorns as an adult but you have to go through all sorts of bullying, etc. Who they have become is a very personal matter. Sometimes that identity gives them comfort. It's a constant in a world of change. Unfortunately this lack of change can form a spiritual, intellectual and emotional stagnation.

That said, each person, as an individual has the power to change, if they have the will. They don’t always have to change though.

In my opinion, changing can also be beneficial regarding personality. For example, you’re a very mean friend. Some changes in personality to be kinder are beneficial!

So, what is natural selection? Natural selection is the process by which traits become more or less common in a population, based on the reproductive success, over many generations, of individuals carrying the traits. It is very important to note that natural selection occurs to populations of organisms, not to individuals. However, it is the adaptations of individuals that can lead to shifts in populations. But how? If individuals are well adapted to current conditions, they will have greater fitness and reproductive success. If individuals are not well adapted to current conditions, they will have lower fitness and reproductive success. Traits that cause lower fitness and reproductive success will become increasingly rare, and the underlying genes can eventually be lost from the populations gene pool. It is very important to note that natural selection can only work on existing variation within a population. Such variations often arise by mutation, a change in some part of the genetic code for a trait. Mutations arise by chance and without foresight for the potential advantage or disadvantage of the mutation. In other words, variations do not arise because they are needed. suppose you believe that the beta of the firm is 0.4. how much is the firm worth if the risk-free rate is 4% and the expected rate of return on the market portfolio is 11%? mr. pink's clothing corporation enters into a contract to sell denim clothing to mr. blue's fashion company, which in turn sells a pair of jeans to wolf, a consumer. in contrast to standards that apply to consumers, the ucc imposes on merchants group of answer choices stricter ethical standards special business standards less strict standards the same overall standards Fingerprint analysis and blood grouping are features that do not change through the lifetime of an individual.
