The Odyssey is a Greek epic poem attributed to Homer, telling the story of the hero Odysseus and his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters a variety of challenges and obstacles, including angry gods, treacherous monsters, and seductive sorceresses. Despite these challenges, Odysseus uses his cunning and strength to overcome them and eventually reunites with his wife and son back in Ithaca. The poem is a reflection of ancient Greek culture and mythology, exploring themes such as heroism, hospitality, and the wrath of the gods. It remains a timeless classic, influencing literature and storytelling for centuries to come.

The answers to the corresponding Odyssey reading guide questions are given below:

First Odysseus disguises himself as a beggar upon his return to Ithaca to test the loyalty of his servants and to make a surprise attack on the suitors.Next, Odysseus reveals his identity saying, "I am Odysseus, son of Laertes, known to the world for every kind of craft—my fame goes out through the sky-high heaven."Then Telemachus blames the head suitor, Antinoos, for all the crimes of the suitors, demonstrating that he is a courageous and loyal son who is willing to defend his father's honour and take revenge for his mistreatment.Next, the suitors decide to attack Odysseus and try to kill him. They draw their weapons and charge at him, but Odysseus fights back fiercely with the help of his loyal servants and allies. Then, Odysseus's servant, Melanthius, betrays him by bringing weapons and armour to the suitors, allowing them to strengthen their attack. He also insults and abuses Odysseus while he is tied up, showing his disloyalty and treacherous nature. The swineherd (Eumaeus) and the drover (Philoteus) help Odysseus by fighting alongside him against the suitors and providing him with weapons and assistance. They are loyal servants who have remained faithful to their master even in his absence.Next Athena appears as Mentor and taunts Odysseus by saying, "Odysseus, master of land ways and seaways, command yourself. Call up the fighting heart in you again...You were never a coward in your own home, Odysseus, and now you'll prove as stout and brave a man as any." Athena is testing Odysseus's courage and skill, as well as motivating him to fight with all his strength and skill.Athena intervenes by appearing in front of the suitors in the form of a bird and warning them of their impending doom. She also helps Odysseus by protecting him from their arrows and guiding his aim with her divine power.Odysseus decides to spare the bard Phemius and the herald Medon, who have not participated in the suitors' crimes and have shown loyalty to him in their own ways. He also spares the families of the suitors, who have been innocent bystanders in the conflict. However, he executes all the suitors and their allies who have actively plotted against him and his family. Then Odysseus calls on Eurycleia to ask her to identify the maids who have been disloyal and have slept with the suitors. He wants to know who has been unfaithful to him and his wife, so he can punish them accordingly.Odysseus punishes the women who have betrayed him by ordering them to clean up the blood and corpses of the slain suitors. He then hangs them one by one until they die, as a warning to all other servants not to betray their masters. This act shows the severity of Odysseus's wrath and his determination to maintain his authority and honour.Melanthios is punished by being mutilated and killed in a gruesome manner. Odysseus orders for his ears, nose, and genitals to be cut off before he is thrown outside to be eaten by dogs. Melanthios had shown extreme disloyalty and betrayal by aiding the suitors in their efforts to overthrow Odysseus and take over his kingdom, and therefore, he receives harsh punishment.Odysseus cleanses the hall by purifying it with sulfur and smoke. He also orders for the bodies of the slain suitors to be removed and buried, and for the hall to be cleaned and restored to its former glory. Dog Training Me?
by Bryan Ellett

My new dog is a mutt, or a mix of breeds, most likely a mix between a basset hound and a beagle. No one knows for sure, though. His name is Capote, and he is a really attractive dog, small but sturdy. He has great posture and always looks proud, sticking his chest out slightly and standing tall. There is only one problem, but it’s a big problem: he won’t fetch.

Actually, it’s worse than that. Not only will he not fetch, he’s making me play his game! I throw the ball, and Capote goes running after it, as if fetch is the thing in the world he most enjoys. He begins bringing the ball back to me, but then he runs right past me. I follow him, reaching for the ball and trying to pull it out of his mouth, but he keeps turning away from me, teasing me with the ball! He’s not playing fetch; he’s playing “come chase me!” And he’s training me to do it, too!

Once I realized this, I read some books, and I’ve changed my strategy. If he runs past me with the ball, I don’t follow him, and I don’t reach for the ball. Instead, I turn my back on him and ignore him. He really does like to play, so me ignoring him is a tremendous punishment! Eventually, he’ll bring the ball over to me, and once he does, I immediately throw it. That way, he knows that he’ll be rewarded with another throw if he brings me the ball. He is not a perfect fetch player yet, but I can now tell that one day he will be!

The reader can guess that training the dog
A.
probably will not work very well.

B.
will happen very quickly.

C.
is not much fun to do.

D.
will take a long time.

Answers

Answer: Will take a long time. (D)

Explanation: Training a dog to fetch is a skill that can be taught by following some steps such as teaching the dog to hold, send, come back and release the toy. Fetching comes naturally to some breeds like retrievers and border collies, but even if your dog isn’t born to fetch, consistent practice for 10 minutes a day will ensure it learns how to fetch correctly. The time it takes to train a dog to fetch may vary depending on the dog’s personality, age, breed and previous experience with toys. Some dogs may learn it in a few days or weeks, while others may take months or longer. Therefore, based on the information I found, the reader can guess that training the dog D. will take a long time.

Hope this helps, and have a great day! =)

Answer:

It would be D because it would take some time to train him.

ACTIVITY: METAPHORS AND GOD

In the last few lessons, you have learned how reading the Word of God brings inspiration; 1 Timothy 3:16 states, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (ESV). As we read the Word of God, we can take it into our hearts and minds and begin to be transformed by it (Rom. 12:2) so that we may become more like God, whom we are to be imitators of (Eph. 5:1-2).

In the poetry unit, you learned about metaphors. Remember, a metaphor is where two dissimilar things are compared with one another; metaphors state that something is something else, even though it is not literally that thing. For example: Jesus is the “Light of the World” (John 9:5). Is Jesus actually a light (like a lamp?) No, but he is being compared to one.

These metaphors in the Bible have much to teach us about who God is, but it is our job to search out and understand what God is saying about himself through these metaphors. For this project, you will choose a metaphor from the Bible and explore its meaning to understand what God is saying about himself. You may consider reading outside of the Bible to learn about the thing being compared in the metaphor (example: read about lions, potters, shepherds, etc.).

Interpret metaphors from the Bible
Relate the metaphor to how it connects to God and you
Articulate the metaphor, its purpose, and the meaning

1. Choose one of the following metaphors from the Bible, read the related verses and analyze the intended metaphor to find meaning

Clay and Potter (Isaiah 64:8, 45:9; Romans 9:20-21)
Bread of Life (John 6:35, 6:47-51; Deut. 8:3)
Lamb (Revelation 12:11; John 1:29)
A rock (Psalm 78:35; Matthew 7:24-27)
A shepherd and sheep (Psalm 95:7; Isaiah 40:11; Matthew 18:12-14)
Lion (Jeremiah 50:44; Hosea 11:10; Isaiah 31:4; Revelation 5:5)
Vine and branches (John 15:1 - 8)
answer the following questions.

What metaphor did you choose?
Read at least one verse associated with the metaphor.
What does the metaphor mean?
What did God reveal about himself through this metaphor?
What does this mean for you and other Christians?

"The Author to Her Book" is a poem in which Bradstreet expresses her mixed feelings about a book of her poetry that was published without her permission and which she sees as flawed. The poem reflects the Puritan attitudes towards poetry and the role of women in society, as well as the tension between public and private spheres in colonial America. . how does the way snowball devotes his time differ from that of napoleon? what does napoleon do with jesse and bluebell's puppies? why?in animal farm

Answers

Two pigs named Snowball and Napoleon have differing styles of leadership in George Orwell's "Animal Farm."

Snowball spends his time managing the farm's animals and educating them, notably by teaching them to read. He also helps build structures for the animals. Napoleon, on the other hand, concentrates on strengthening his position and obliterating his rivals.

Napoleon takes the puppies away from Jesse and Bluebell after they give birth, nurtures them covertly, and trains them to be his own personal army. In order to maintain his dominance over the other animals and put an end to any potential uprisings, he does this. In other words, Snowball places more importance on the welfare of the animal kingdom than Napoleon does on maintaining his own dominance.
